100 Women Doing Good | Words to live by

Ahh, women. I don't like to use the word feminist because it's got a bit of a bad wrap, but I still believe in empowering each other. Men and women coming together to empower each other is everything that makes equality so right.

100 Women doing good is an event held 2-3 times a year from the amazing group of people at 100 People doing good. This organisation brings together 4-5 charities with strong intentions to empower and support women in the Singapore regardless of race, culture and socio-economic background. A couple weeks back, I attended the 100 Women doing good event held at a beautiful hotel here in Singapore. 5 organisations came together with an overarching theme of Sisterhood, to preach what they believed in and give insight into a different side of Singapore. It was incredible, and I definitely learned about a side of Singapore I had only briefly interacted with.

My mother organised for her and me to go to this event, and I was more than happy to go. Empowerment for not just women but men is everything I believe in, and equality is so important. It's small events like these that can have a huge impact, and it really shows how good people can be. This night was all about sisterhood; coming together as women, for women. The idea of the night is for the charities and organisations to present what they do, how they help the community and which aspects of women's (or men) life they are changing for the greater good. Then you choose the charity you want to donate $100 to, and it comes together as 100 women donating and helping charities to further do great things. The 5 organisations that came together all do amazing things. These include Aida, Dress for Success, One Singapore and Dignity Mama. Aida was set up to empower the wonderful domestic helpers to save money, begin their own business or start something that helps them establish a life on their own. Dress for success teaches the women of Singapore how to literally manifest their name. Giving career advice and how to "wow" employers to ensure they get jobs they deserve. One Singapore shares the importance of understanding the side of Singapore we usually don't. This night I learnt that in Singapore there are 387,000 people who are unable to reach the basic requirements of food, clothing, shelter and other basic necessities. Dignity Mama is set up to put parents with challenged youth together to manage a retail store selling second-hand books. Altogether, these amazing organisations empower the community of Singapore to help those in need. It was really heartwarming to see such incredible people stand up to speak on what they believe so passionately in, and I could not wait to help.

As the first image says, everyone can do something. I truly believe that it does not take a lot to give back to those who truly need it, and it is up to us to make a difference in those peoples lives. It is these organisations like 100 People doing good that really emulate what society should be; helping each other for the greater good. It's not usually a part of my blog to do these style of posts, but something that you should know is that I truly am passionate about helping those in need. I volunteer with both Meals on Wheels and Soup Kitchen to ensure that no one goes hungry, at least in a way that I can help. I would like to give thanks to those who truly understand the importance of helping others because you're doing an amazing thing and you are changing the big world one step at a time. Thank you to those at 100 People doing good, because you guys really are doing great.

If you're thinking about helping the community, I strongly encourage you to. Its a wonderful feeling knowing that you are making a difference to someone's life, no matter the scale. It's an incredibly humbling experience, and helping the community of Singapore in the way that I can has changed my life for the better. Thank you to everyone at this event, and especially my mama for bringing me along to something we both believe in so much.

Here is the website that you can check out to further understand the amazing things 100 people doing good do to change the community of Singapore. They also work with men for the 100 men doing good events. It's incredible!
