In a very multicultural country like Singapore, you find yourself integrating into different cultures without even knowing it. Such as eating Nasi Lemak or Chicken Rice whilst sipping on a Lime Juice is something I don't even notice, It just comes with this lifestyle. Recently, I decided that I would channel my inner Singaporean and embrace different cultures, whether it be Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Indian or any other thing I find interesting!.

Henna or Mendhi is a dye made from the Henna plant. It is typically used to dye skin, hair and fingernails. It reacts with the molecules on your skin and leaves a temporary dye, sort of like a tattoo. Henna nights are held before weddings in India, to put a design on the Brides hand. This is traditional and very important in Indian Culture. I personally like Henna because it looks so elegant on the hand. It is so pretty and I love how it plays a big role in many different cultures and It is so cool! I recently purchased a henna cone from Little India. It was around $1.50 (75p) and you can get it really everywhere. I love that you can get different colours and things, but I just stuck to the traditional henna. I couldn't wait to get home and get my hands on using it. I decided that I would begin drawing some designs on some paper first with a pen to choose something that I liked. I knew I wanted to make it really unique and not traditional, but still add some of those aspects. So off I went, pulled the pin out of the cone and started drawing. I must say it takes some getting used too because it can get quite flimsy. After a while I started getting comfortable and made some unique tear drop prints and some geometric designs. I know it isn't perfect and not necessarily traditional but I like it! I think it is unique and the good thing is if I don't, It only lasts 1 week!. If you want to get a tattoo but don't know if it will look good, try henna!. If you do go to a place that sells henna, chances are they will be able to do it for you! The designs are beautiful and not too expensive! Plus you can make a good friend while she/he is doing it for you! So! I encourage you to go out and try something new :) Try something a little different!
Do you like Henna?
