When I was younger I was exposed to the sun 24/7. This isn't much different now as I live in such a hot climate, so you can say i've been exposed to hot humid weather my entire life. Although I do enjoy soaking in the vitamin D, it comes with great responsibility. My mother would always slather me in sunscreen, SPF 50 on my face and 30 everywhere else, so i've been brought up with a pretty strict sun exposure protection. I couldn't be more grateful as the sun although nice and warm is really dangerous. Sun burn is caused by UVA and UVB rays. UV radiation is a electromagnetic spectrum that reaches the earth from the sun. They both play a huge role in the causes of premature aging and skin cancer. Growing up in Australia as i'm sure everywhere else is too, Sun protection was of the upmost importance. Growing up by the beach I was to told to slip on a swimming t-short, slop on the sunscreen and slap on a hat. This summer, I advise it to make it your safest yet!. Slop on that sunscreen because your skin will thank you later, Slap on a wide brim hat, floppy ones are quite fashionable and slap on those Bug sunnies because you don't wan't wrinkled eyes now do we. Another way to stay safe in the sun is to set up your beach umbrella or towel in the shade. This means you will stay cool and if you feel like going for a swim, you can soak up the sun then (whilst being protected of course). This summer, be safe! be protected and don't forget to SLIP, SLAP, SLOP!

I can't emphasise this enough to people! I'm about to move to Oz too, so it's even more important to me! I think it's really important for people to also know that wearing 2x50 spf on your face does not = SPF100! :) Great post! ~ Claire x

Sunscreen is SO important! I don't leave the house without at least SPF 30 on and although it keeps me pale its better than being unprotected

I'm always so surprised at how many of my friends over look sunscreen, even living in Australia! I'm always the one running around like a mother, forcing sunscreen across their noses! You can never take your skin for granted. Fantastic post! x

ReplyDeleteGreat post! I'm always so careful with my skin as I'm so pale that I burn within minutes. I've even branched out this year & bought a heat-protector to spritz on my hair! No such thing as being too careful xx

Sunscreen is super important I can't believe most people don't know about this, I'm always super careful with my skin because I'm quite pale and if I'm not careful enough then I end up looking pink! It's awful! Great post!

It's a shame that many people don't use sunscreen and don't really understand the harm it does but it's good that there's bloggers around to share advice and the reasons why to use it - maybe people will read and hopefully see the reasoning behind it! :)
